Haven’t expected this from Dell a bit surprised to see this at CES 2011. Dell Venue will be available before March. Also Android 2.2 is upgradable to 2.3 Gingerbread. Dell Streak Unlocked with Froyo Android 2.2 Price Features

The Dell Streak which was originally shipped with Android 1.6, however the tablet/smartphone hybrid received the v2.1 update back in September. Monday Dell announced that the device would also receive Froyo over the air. Now New Dell Streaks are being offered Unlocked with Updated Froyo installed. Currently Dell US offers Streaks Froyo pre installed.  Best Buy devices currently in stores will be eligible for the Froyo update in December 2010. Additionally, within the next few weeks, an unlocked version of the Streak with Froyo pre-installed will be available on www.dell.com in the U.S. I’ll post back here once I have some solid dates. Streaks purchased in Japan, Korea or Singapore will have Froyo preinstalled. The update will only be deployed to Streak units which have Dell-provided versions of Android.

Dell Streak Android Froyo Update Download Process The final link to download the 2.2 Froyo update will be non-functional unless the browsing session is initiated via the software update mechanism on the Streak device. This is because the software update application in the device communicates with the OTA update server to authenticate the update session. The link to the update is dynamically set to download the correct software package based on the device that is connecting to the update server. Please wait for the software update notice to display on the device itself, when your version of the software is ready for the upgrade. You can continue to check for updates manually by going to Menu->Settings->About device->System Updates which will connect to the update server and correctly check for an update. This OTA update is rolling out in phases to different groups of customers.

Dell Streak is available for 299.99$ with two year contract. Unlocked Dell Streaks are priced at 579.99$ & 678.99$ for 16GB & 32 GB respectively.

    DELL Mini 3i heading to UK apparently

    The Dell Mini 3i Android phone is on its way to the UK. That’s the word direct from Dell, who told us at an exclusive CES event this morning that its Google-backed blower “was built specifically with the UK in mind.”

    The touchscreen Dell Mini 3i is a rather natty number, with a skinned version of Android ticking along underneath a 3.5-inch screen, with a 640×360 resolution. There’s a 3 megapixel snapper slapped on the back, with zoom, autofocus and video all on board. Dell Mini 3i also packs in GPS and Bluetooth. While Dell execs told a room full of hacks it was on its way to Europe, they were more up front about UK plans when we quizzed them, saying it was meant for us Brits in particular.No word yet on which carriers are getting this phone or when, but expect to see it hitting UK shelves in the not-so-distant future.

    AT&T Finally Getting Android Smartphones

    AT&T made it official just now the wireless carrier will release five new Android handsets in the first half of 2010. Of the five, three will be exclusive to AT&T and include:

    • a Motorola smartphone with MOTOBLUR and a unique form factor, the Motorola Motus/Backflip
    • a Dell smartphone, the Dell Mini 3
    • an HTC smartphone, also an exclusive to AT&T

      AT&T today announced plans to launch five new devices from Dell, HTC and Motorola based on the Android platform. The company also announced a major initiative to expand the universe of mobile applications beyond smartphones to more mobile phones – and spur future app development for emerging consumer electronics devices, its U-verse TV platform, and enterprise and small business workplaces.

      At the 4th annual AT&T Developer Summit in Las Vegas, executives outlined details including:

      • New devices that will give customers the most robust choices of major operating systems (OS), including Android™, in the U.S.
      • A goal to offer all major smartphone OS app stores
      • An agreement with Qualcomm to standardize apps development for mid-range Quick Messaging Devices using BREW Mobile Platform. These devices are used by millions of customers who historically have not had the same convenient access as smartphone customers to the market’s hottest apps
      • A new AT&T SDK (software developer kit) to help developers immediately begin to develop apps for these devices
      • A significantly enhanced developer program and new relationships with global carriers that are intended to make it easier for developers to distribute apps in markets outside the U.S.
      • Future initiatives to enable developers to create more apps for AT&T’s U-verse TV, emerging consumer electronics devices, and businesses
      • A new AT&T Virtual Innovation Lab and two new Innovation Centers, which will help developers and spur apps development

      “Applications help consumers realize the full value and benefits of mobile broadband networks, services and devices,” said Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “Today some AT&T customers can take advantage of more than 100,000 apps – but only if they have the right handset.
