Apple iSlate to get Aluminum Casing | Q2 2010

apple_tablet_concept1

According to insiders Apple iSlate will only go on sale in Q2 2010.  Reuters claim two “sources familiar with the situation” have tipped AVY Precision Technology as supplying aluminum casings for the iSlate as of February 2010, while a third source has fingered TPK Solutions as joining Wintek as a touchscreen panel provider.

Production of the cases will begin in February, so everything points to a second-quarter launch right now.  It doesn’t take that long for the company to assemble the PC together, but a second-quarter shipment date is what we’re looking at now” unnamed source

No design details about the iSlate casings have been revealed, aside from the fact that they’re made from aluminum.  That could be left shiny and polished, like the back of an iPod touch, or brushed to a matte finish like a MacBook.  Since a camera and wireless connectivity have been tipped for the iSlate. Right now rumors are still bouncing between 7-inch and 10-inch panels, and we’re still not entirely sure what size Apple will eventually be announcing nor even whether they’ve one device or several planned.  CES 2010 has been filled with touchscreen tablets, prompted in no small part by the urge to cash in on what many manufacturers see as Apple-fuelled hype.

Microsoft to Launch Dual Screen E-Book Reader

11157

Leaked reports says Microsoft has been working on an innovative concept for tablet PCs. The Courier project will supposedly create devices that have two screens, and are capable of folding like a book.

The first of these may be announced this evening by Steve Ballmer during his keynote address at the Consumer Electronics Show.

Published reports indicate that Microsoft's CEO will unveil a tablet device that will be made by HP. No additional details were given, and it's not yet known if this product is related to the Courier project.

This device is supposedly going to be released around the middle of this year.

Project Courier
This fall, a great deal of information leaked out of Microsoft about a secret development project. Under the name Courier, this will allegedly create a new class of tablet computers.

Not all the details are known yet, but a rough overview has come out.

The Courier's 7-inch dual screens will support multi-touch, and will be used for controlling the device, entering text, and drawing.

When closed, it will be protected by a leather cover, and will include a rear-facing camera.

Apple Has Ordered 10 Million iSlate Units | Foxconn

kawui appletablet

Seen above Kaifu Lee, who is the ex-president of Google China and most importantly has worked for Apple before has unveiled some interesting facts about the Apple Tablet. On sina.com.cn, a microblog, he said that Apple Tablet looks like a bigger iPhone that sports an awesome UI packed in a beautiful 10.1-inch screen. The tablet combines the functions of both netbook and kindle, an ebook reader. It has virtual keyboard for text entry and a webcam for video conferencing.

This device will supposedly run the iPhone OS, and be released by AT&T, Verizon, both, or neither. Whether it's a 3G connection or Wi-Fi, the iSlate will allegedly have wireless access to the Internet, including iTunes. This will allow users to download music, e-books, and video, which can then be displayed on the large screen.

All of the features one would expect in a mobile computer will supposedly also be included: web browser, email software, etc. Steve Jobs is expected to unveil the iSlate at an event on January 26, with a release scheduled for March or April.

Apple reportedly wants it to cost between $800 and $1,000

    Bluetooth 4.0 Specifications Unveiled

    bluetooth_large
    bluetooth
The Latest Bluetooth Specs promised to be lo energy consuming which can extract required energy from coin-cell batteries.
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has officially announced the release of Bluetooth Core Specification 4.0, or rather, revealed the adoption of Bluetooth low energy wireless technology for 4.0. The SIG said that the new specs will open an entirely new market that requires low cost and low power connectivity. Now a small, "coin-cell" battery can power Bluetooth devices, ideal for healthcare, security, home entertainment, and other markets.
The formal announcement stated that v4.0 will feature ultra-low peak, average and idle mode power consumption. The technology also features an enhanced range, multi-vendor interoperability, low cost, and the ability to run "for years" on standard coin-cell batteries. The specs also say that the technology supports small data packets transferred at 1 Mbps, 24 bit CRC on all packets, and even provides full AES-128 encryption.
"With today’s announcement the race is on for product designers to be the first to market," said Michael Foley, Ph.D., executive director, Bluetooth SIG. "Bluetooth low energy modules for all sorts of new products may now be qualified – this is an important step towards our goal of enabling new markets with Bluetooth wireless technology. For example, the Continua Health Alliance has already selected Bluetooth low energy technology as a transport for the next version of its guidelines."
The SIG said that the new specs will come in two flavors: dual-mode and single-mode. In dual-mode, Bluetooth low energy functionality is integrated into an existing Classic Bluetooth controller. The single-mode version, ideal for highly integrated and compact devices, uses a lightweight link layer for ultra low power idle mode operation. The new Bluetooth specs promise a better range, and low energy consumption that can pull from small coin-cell batteries.
Bluetooth low energy allows for two types of implementation -- single-mode and dual-mode. In dual-mode, the Bluetooth low energy functionality is integrated into an existing classic Bluetooth controller. In single-mode, ideal for highly integrated and small devices, the spec uses a lightweight link layer for ultra low power idle mode operation. The new specification will usher in a new range of connected devices and Nokia is already at work on integrating the tech into products.
“Nokia has been committed to this ultra low power wireless technology since its Wibree technology development. Now we are happy to see the adoption of the Bluetooth low energy specification, which will open up new market opportunities and space to innovate for the industry. The wide manufacturer base behind Bluetooth low energy technology and the combined industry effort will result in exciting new user experiences in the mobile space,” said Markku Verkama, Director, Devices R&D Nokia.
