Google Nexus One Sales in UK by April

nexusone_1

Google’s Nexus One was slated to launch in the UK by April. It will be on sale through Google.com/phone only, as the company has previously announced. Tariffs have not been announced. Built by HTC, the Nexus One is Google’s attempt to assert the superiority of its mobile operating system Android, in the face of market dominance from Apple’s iPhone and Microsoft’s reinvigorated mobile software, Windows Phone.

Vodafone, had been keen for a launch in March, sources close to both companies have confirmed that April is when the company will have a realistic chance of being ready for the launch. The Nexus One is unusual because it is available online only direct from Google. Although sales had initially been reported as slow in comparison to the iPhone, the Nexus One has not benefited from the significant promotion that Apple has bought for its flagship product. Google issued an update to the phone, shortly after its American launch in January, which added the multitouch web browsing that has been so successful on Apple’s iPhone. Both Google and Vodafone would only say that they were committed to delivering the phone to the UK in the spring.

AT&T Shines Out in Tests Conducted by PCWorld

189592-smartphonechart1_original
PC World had a performance tests on current Carriers and quoted as below :

After generating disappointing results in our tests last spring, AT&T’s 3G network is now the top performer in our 13-city tests, with download speeds 67 percent faster than its competitors'.

Mark Sullivan, PCWorld
AT&T posted an average download speed of 818 kbps (kilobits per second) across 13 cities. In  tests conducted in December 2009 and January 2010, AT&T’s average download speed increased to 1410 kbps. AT&T's download speeds in New York City were three times faster in our latest tests than in our tests last spring; in San Francisco, the AT&T's download speeds were 40 percent faster.
Verizon Wireless, which turned in the best all-around performance in last spring's 3G network testing, and Sprint, which finished a close second, both continue to perform well, according to our latest test results. Our tests found that Sprint’s network delivered download speeds nearly identical to those we measured eight months ago in the 13 test cities; Verizon’s download speeds decreased by 8 percent overall.U.S. consumers pay a lot for the convenience of mobile communications and computing. In 2009, Americans spent about $4.8 billion on wireless devices and service, and analysts project that they will spend an even bigger chunk of their paychecks on wireless during 2010.

Clearance for T-Mobile & Orange mobile to Merge

 Alexander-and-Moat t-mobile-and-orange1

The European Commission is expected to fast-track the deal after the two companies offered key concessions to ease the concerns of competition and industry watchdogs in the UK. The tie-up between the British arm of Deutsche Telekom’s T-Mobile, and Orange UK, a subsidiary of France Telecom. The two plan to form a joint venture with some 30 million customers, allowing it to overtake O2 as Britain’s biggest player  with 37% of the market Share.

The deal met with opposition from the Office of Fair Trading, the competition regulator, Ofcom, the industry watchdog, and rival mobile-phone operators. This month the OFT requested that it be granted the right to rule on the merger. Orange and TMobile have agreed to give up some bandwidth, prompting both the OFT and Ofcom to tell the European Commission. The commission has until March 1 to decide whether to refer the inquiry to the UK authorities, but the behind-the-scenes deal now makes this unlikely. One key concession concerns 3, Britain’s smallest mobile operator, and its network-sharing agreement with T-Mobile. Another concession has seen the two companies offer to relinquish up to a quarter of the valuable 1,800MHz bandwidth. If the merger goes ahead, the enlarged group is expected to continue using both the Orange and T-Mobile brands. Phone charges could fall as a result of the deal.

Apple removes thousands of Apps from AppStore

  Wobble-iBoobs-630x363

wobble-iphone-app

Apple has removed thousands of iPhone applications from its online App Store to try to clean it up before the sale of the first Apple iPad tablets. Programs that feature sexual content, games or even women in bikinis are no longer acceptable, developers have been told. App Store, which has more than 140,000 software applications, has been a huge success for sales of Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch, with more than 3 billion apps downloaded since its launch in July 2008.

Apple is apparently aimed at cleaning up the store after complaints from parents and software developers that soft-core porn apps have been crowding out games, books, navigation and other software programs.

One that has been removed is called Wobble iBoobs, in which users could add “wobble zones” to an image of a bikini-clad model. The developer, Jon Atherton, said a removal notice from Apple noted: “We have recently received numerous complaints from our customers about this type of content and have changed our guidelines appropriately. We have decided to remove any overtly sexual content from the App Store, which includes your application.”

Apple declined to say if there had been a policy change but a spokeswoman said: “Whenever we receive complaints about objectionable content we review them. If we find these apps contain inappropriate material we remove them and request the developer make any necessary changes in order to be distributed by Apple.”

palm-pre-plus-handson

PreCentral’s sources confirms that the much anticipated webOS 1.4 update is coming this 25 February. That new date comes from a Verizon source, suggesting at the very least Pre Plus and Pixi Plus availability; there’s no word on when Palm Pre and Pixi handsets on Sprint will see the update. webOS 1.4 is expected to bring with it the ability to record video using the Smartphone's previously still only camera, together with paving the way for Flash 10.1 support.  However Flash 10.1 won’t actually be part of the update itself.  According to PreCentral’s sources, the update will begin distributing to users in 100,000 blocks, and can also be manually Updated.

Sprint Launching Wimax Enable Mammoth HTC SuperSonic

 htc-supersonic-android-phone-148

Sprint was willing to talk a bit about the timing for its first WiMAX-enabled smartphone, it declined to give details about the actual device. However, these may have been revealed by another source. In recent weeks, details on an HTC smartphone with WiMAX have been leaking out. It's quite possible that this model, the HTC Supersonic, will debut in the near future from Sprint.

Last fall, Mathew Oommen, Sprint's VP of device and technology development, said Google's Android OS is the best option available for creating streaming multimedia applications that can take full advantage of WiMAX's high data transfer speeds. The Supersonic will reportedly be an Android-based device with a focus on multimedia. It will supposedly have 4.3-inch touchscreen, a slim tablet shape, and 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. On top of Android OS 2.1 (or possibly version 3.0), the Supersonic will run HTC Sense, this company's alternate user interface that expands on Google's standard one. This upcoming model will reportedly have a kickstand to hold it up while the user is watching movies on the comparatively large screen.Despite all the leaks, many details on the Supersonic, such as the camera resolution or battery capacity, remain unknown.

The phone will run on the 4G WiMax network Sprint has been building with wireless Internet service provider Clearwire Corp. (Sprint owns 51% of Kirkland, Wash.-based Clearwire.) This 4G service is currently available in 27 U.S. markets covering more than 30 million people and will extend to Houston, Tex. in the next few weeks. By the end of the year, the network is expected to include Boston, New York, San Francisco and Washington and cover up to 120 million people.Paget Alves, Sprint's president of Business Markets, says the company views 4G as a multi billion dollar business opportunity. Healthcare, transportation, manufacturing, media and retail companies are already using 4G to train and communicate with employees, he notes. Sprint says 4G technology can be up to 10 times faster than 3G, making it a good fit for bandwidth-intensive applications like streaming video, transmitting medical images and e-mailing training manuals. This universal "need for speed" means businesses and government agencies not just consumers--will likely adopt Sprint's 4G phone when it debuts, says Alves. He declined to disclose additional details about the handset, but online reports point to a touch-screen phone running Google's Android operating system, designed by Taiwan's HTC. Since Sprint's 4G network is not yet nationwide, the handset is said to be "dual-mode", automatically switching to Sprint's 3G network in areas where 4G isn't available.Sprint is counting on its new 4G phones and markets to keep it ahead of rival Verizon, which plans to introduce its own 4G network--using a different technology called LTE--later this year.

The HTC Supersonic features:

  • 4.3-inch Touchscreen
  • 1 GHz Snapdragon
  • Resolution of 480×800
  • HTC Sense UI
  • 3.5 mm Audio Jack
  • 5 MP Camera
  • Bluetooth 2.1

Microsoft Windows Mobile 7 Series A New Era Dawns

Cavgpture Windows Mobile has been losing market share to rivals like Apple's iPhone OS and Google's Android OS for years. The only thing that has slowed this trend has been companies like HTC covering up the standard user interface with ones they have developed themselves. The more of Microsoft's UI these alternate user interfaces left exposed, the more the users complained. That's a serious condemnation. New Windows Phone 7 emphasizes the features consumers want: social networking, pictures, games, etc.The venerable Start button is gone, along with any hints of the desktop OS. And no one wants to use a stylus anymore, so Windows Phone 7 has been redesigned to be controlled with a fingertip. The tiny buttons are gone, replaced with large ones. Fortunately, displays have grown larger, too. Just about the only significant similarity between old and new is that both include Microsoft Office Mobile and support for synchronizing with Microsoft Exchange, so smartphones running Windows Phone 7 can still be used for work, even if that's not their focus anymore.
it_photo_89998_42
As much as I like the new user interface, I'm not anywhere near as fond of Windows Phone 7's other big change: no compatibility with current software. The wide array of third-party applications was Windows Mobile's greatest strength... I could argue it was its only strength. I'm trying to see the logic behind the decision to give this up.Developers are going to have to re-write their apps, as well as submit them for approval so they can appear in the official software store -- which will apparently be the only software store.  It's my understand that this is Microsoft's way of insuring that software conforms to the new Windows Phone look and feel. There's a part of me that can agree with this. The vast majority of current Windows Mobile apps were written to be used with a stylus and so are virtually unusable with a fingertip because all the control elements are too small. Finding a way to force developers to update the user interface on their apps makes sense. But getting to this goal requires so much sacrifice. It feels to me like Windows Phone is chewing its own foot off to escape from a trap.
Capture  Capturse   Captureg

Microsoft encouraged companies making Windows Mobile-based phones to explore a wide range of shapes and sizes.  The choices for companies making Windows Phone devices will be much more limited, as Microsoft is going to specify some hardware requirements, most notably a WVGA, capacitive touchscreen. During his presentation on this new operating system, CEO Steve Ballmer made the argument that by limiting hardware options, Microsoft is fostering innovation.  This is completely illogical... but I still agree with Microsoft's decision. Over the years, companies made some very marginal Windows Mobile smartphones, and these left plenty of customers with a bad taste in their mouth about this operating system. The usual cause for bad performance was insufficient RAM, but slow processors were sometimes a culprit too. With Windows Phone 7, we'll be sure that any smartphone we buy is going to have good performance. Incidentally, Microsoft is also no longer going to allow its licensees to replace the default user interface with their own. They will be allowed to tweak it a bit, within certain limits, but the days of TouchFLO and TouchWiz on Windows phones are gone.
resized_windows_phone
Despite this week's official unveiling, we're still about nine months away from the first smartphones running Windows Phone 7 hitting the market, so Microsoft has plenty of time to make some adjustments to it.In the coming months, I'm hoping that Microsoft will seriously consider adding a compatibility layer that will allow it to run current Windows Mobile apps, at least during a transition phase. Otherwise, those who buy the first models running this OS will almost certainly have a very limited selection of third-party apps to choose from. As for the other features of Windows Phone 7, I don't think they need many changes at all -- the new user interface is the best move Microsoft has made in years, and I welcome the new hardware requirements.

But there are many cases and possibilities, to use this program without receiver too.

How To install 3rd Party Applications on Your Blackberry

att-blackberry-apps

There are two ways of installing applications to your BlackBerry. You can download the software over the air (OTA) using the web browser on your device, or you can install an application from your PC using the RIM Desktop Manager.

OTAInstall1   OTAInstall2

To install OTA, you must have a URL for the software you want to install. The URL will point to a JAD file somewhere on the Internet. After entering the URL into the browser on your BlackBerry, it will prompt you to verify that you want to install the application. Say yes, and if all goes well it will install on your BlackBerry.

desktopManagerCutoff

The second method of installation uses the RIM Desktop Manager. Applications meant to be installed from the Desktop Manager come with two files: an ALX file and a COD file. First, connect your BlackBerry to your PC using a data cable. Once the device is attached, launch the RIM Desktop Manager. Then launch the Application Loader from inside the Desktop Manager.

Click the “Add…” button in the Application Loader and specify an Application Loader File(.alx). The application should now appear in the list of items to install. Follow the instructions from there to finish the installation and it should appear on your Blackberry. This is really hassle free installation. Enjoy!

Motorola New Concept Phone MOTOSPLIT

motorola-motosplit-render

Motorola has recentely came up with a unique form factor with MOTO BACKFLIP no they a new concept going around MOTOSPLIT. It is Sai to be released in 3rd Quarter. The keyboard keys are inset and probably have no tactile feedback, however, they should be quite easy to use. It looks like the cutouts are pretty finger-friendly, as they contour to the shape of a standard finger. Under those cutouts is a low-resolution monochrome touch screen, one for each side of the keyboard. This is where the finger presses. The contact area is small, but the plastic grid that surrounds it contours to the fingers. The label and function of each key can be changed to suit certain layouts and applications.

The keyboard has multiple orientations. The keyboard can be pulled from side to side for typing on a surface. A small kickstand angles the phone when typing in this manner. The keyboard can also be pulled to the left for a standard landscape layout. There is also a dial-pad layout.

The specifications are slightly different than previously posted. The MOTOSPLIT uses the same processor as the BACKFLIP. Every other spec is almost the same as the BACKFLIP.
