Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 has been on the market since November 8 in North America. Today, Microsoft announced that Windows Phone 7 devices sold more than 1.5 million units within six weeks. Microsoft vice president of business and marketing for Windows Phones Achim Berg noted that the company's goal for success in the mobile market is not predicated on short-term sales milestones. "Our numbers are similar to the performance of other first-generation mobile platforms," he said. "We introduced a new platform with Windows Phone 7, and when you do that, it takes time to educate partners and consumers on what you're delivering and drive awareness and interest in your new offering. We're comfortable with where we are, and we are here for the long run; Windows Phone 7 is just the beginning."
Windows Phone 7 is currently available on four smartphones in the US: the HTC Surround, Samsung Focus, HTC HD7, and Dell Venue Pro. Microsoft is also promoting Windows Phone 7 with its Xbox Live Service. From now until December 31, the company is offering a choice of free Xbox 360 games with all new Windows Phone 7 purchases. Games like Halo: Reach, Fable III, Kinectimals, and Kinect Joy Ride are free options included with purchases.
