Motorola Droid 5 Leaked heading to Verizon



Leaked photos show Droid 5 have appeared in China, showing the new smartphone next to the Motorola Photon Q (launched by Sprint in August last year).
It’s said that the Droid 5 features a 4.3 inch HD (1280 x 720) display, dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 processor, Adreno 255 GPU, 1GB of RAM, NFC, wireless charging, and MicroSD card support. Verizon is planning to release a new QWERTY-equipped Motorola handset this fall.

Martin Cooper Founder of Mobile uses Droid along with his Wife Invention Jitterbug

Martin Cooper, while working for Motorola, invented the first portable (as in you could carry it with you) mobile phone. Droid Android 2.0.1 Update Bypasses screen lock

Android OS version 2.0.1, which all up-to-date Droids are running, has a bug that makes it fairly easy to bypass the phone’s screen-lock security mechanism. The security feature, when working, requires users to input a pattern using onscreen dots before they can access most of the phone’s features (the iPhone offers a similar option).

Exploiting the bug is fairly simple: while receiving an incoming call on a Droid that has its Lock screen activated, you can simply hit the dedicated ‘Back’ button to bypass the lock and jump to the homescreen. This, of course, gives access to the owner’s Email account, cookied web pages, phone directory, and everything else stored on the phone. You can take a tiny bit of solace in the fact that the thief would have to know your phone number or wait for someone to call your phone to exploit the bug, but that’s not particularly reassuring. The issue was first reported earlier today by The Assurer, which says that it is apparently only affecting Android version 2.0.1 on the Droid.

Google about the issue, and a Google spokesperson gave us the following statement:

“We are aware of the issue and we’re working to deliver a fix to Motorola Droids shortly.”

Droid Getting 2.0.1 Update Now | Droid & Dext to Get Android 2.1 Very Soon

Droid Software Update Step By Step Method

Reserving Power for System Update
  • The "Install now" and "Restart & install" options will not be available if your device does not have enough power availability. The system update requires 40% or more power availability if not connected to an external power source and 20% power availability if connected to a power source.    droid_upgrade4 droid_upgrade5    
Note: If you choose "Install later" this will delay installation and you will be taken back to the home screen. The system update message will appear every 30 minutes until you install the update.

  • You will be notified that a system update is available on your device. Press "Install now" and your device will power off and back on and the installation process will begin.

  • If you press "More Info..." you will receive more information regarding the system update on your device.

  • After you've received first notification of the system update you can manually initiate by going to "Home" > "Menu" > "Settings" > "About phone" > "System updates". Press "Restart & install". Your device will power off and back on and the installation process will begin.

  • The update has begun once your device powers off and back on and you see the following screen:

  • To connect to an available "Wi-Fi network" select "Wi-Fi settings" and select an available an Wi-Fi network or manually add a Wi-Fi network that has had security settings established.

  • If you are roaming you will not receive a system update notice. You will need to enable Wi-Fi and wait for the update notice to appear or as mentioned above you can manually update by by selecting "Home" > "Menu" > "Settings" > "About phone" > "System updates".
  • To enable Wi-Fi go to "Settings" > "Wireless & networks". Press "Wi-Fi" to enable.

To connect to an available "Wi-Fi network" select "Wi-Fi settings" and select an available an Wi-Fi network or manually add a Wi-Fi network that has had security settings established

  • If the system update fails to install you will get the following error screen. However, this only means the software did not install properly. Remove and re-insert the battery and power the device back on. The device will power back on with original software and will prompt you once again to install the system update.

Google Maps Now Available For Android 1.6 and Higher

Google Maps Navigation has just been made available for Android 1.6. Now your myTouch 3G, Motorola CLIQ and T-Mobile G1 can better help you in getting around your in-laws’ town for turkey day with GPS voice navigation, automatic re-routing and Google’s new Layers feature for navigation. Unfortunately for Hero and Eris users, you’re left out in the dark until HTC and your respective carriers crank out that 1.6 update for your phones.

A few weeks ago we launched Google Maps Navigation (Beta) as a free feature of Google Maps on Android 2.0 devices. Today we're expanding availability of Google Maps Navigation to devices running Android 1.6 (Donut) and higher, such as the T-Mobile myTouch 3G and the G1.
This release also includes the new Layers feature, which lets you overlay geographical information on the map. View My Maps, transit lines, Wikipedia articles about places, and more.
If you have a phone running Android 1.6, you can download an updated version of Google Maps from Android Market to use Navigation today. Google Maps Navigation is in beta and is currently available in the United States. Some features of Android 2.0 are not available on Android 1.6, for example, the ability to use the "navigate to" voice command as shown in our demo video. However, you can still create a shortcut that will allow you to launch Navigation and start getting directions to a specific place from your current location with just a single touch from your home screen. For example, you can create a "Home" shortcut to quickly navigate home, no matter where you are. Just use the "Add" menu item from the home screen, then choose "Shortcuts", then "Directions."
