Nokia X6 16GB Announced | Specifications

Nokia-X6-16GB-pink-1

Nokia 16GB X6 has half the memory capacity of the 32GB version, and it’s also missing the Comes With Music feature. If you think you can live with that, the 16GB X6 has an impressive battery life of 11.5 hours talk time and 18 days of standby, 4.5 hours of video playback and 35 hours of music playback. Of course, Nokia doesn’t cut any corners with cameras on its high-end devices, and this one features a 5 megapixel shooter with Carl Zeiss optics and a dual LED flash — pretty much par for the course on Nokia devices these days. The new X6 also has in-phone video editing capabilities and TV out support so you can watch your amateur cinematography on a big screen.

Nokia X6 comes with a 3.2-inch widescreen capacitive touchscreen and four new finishes: all black, all white, white with pink highlights and white with yellow highlights. Read on to find out what else is in store. Running the latest version of Symbian^1 the Nokia X6 16GB boasts up to 18 days standby time, 11.5 hours talktime (GSM), 4.5 hours of video playback and a whopping 35 hours of music playback! Shooting videos is a joy, not just because of the camera but the TV-out function enables you to watch your masterpieces on the big screen, too. And of course, you can edit your videos right there on the device. The new Nokia X6 is compatible with the all-new Ovi Maps, offering free walk and drive navigation and tons of extras including Michelin and Lonely Planet guides.Gamers will be happy with the pre-loaded games including Spore by EA, Asphalt4 and DJ Mix Tour by Gameloft. Extend your Phones Voice Recording Time Limit

image

Extended Recorder, which allows you to capture as much audio as your phone’s memory can take. The recording function within the Nokia Series 60 phones is brilliant for capturing voice notes about inventions you've just thought of, or taking down conversations where your friends have agreed to lend you money in case they deny it at a later point. Well, that's what I use it for anyway. I've always found the one minute recording limit a little restrictive though, but thankfully Psiloc Extended Recorder addresses this issue.

This neat electronic recorder captures voice notes of any length, so the duration is only limited by the size of your phone's memory. Luckily, there's an option to save the file in space-saving AMR format, or you can opt for WAV if you're looking for that bit more audio quality.

Another handy feature is that the software displays the remaining recording time and memory, so you know when it's time to start wrapping things up. After the audio has been captured, it can be transferred via USB cable or Bluetooth to your PC, freeing up space for you to start a new recording.

If you attend lots of business meetings, are a forensic detective or if you just like the sound of your own voice then Psiloc Extended Recorder represents a great way of recording lenghtly spiels.

Important Plugins for Symbian Mobiles

symbian-logo Symbian smartphones are more like digital swiss army knives. They arm you with tools for listening to music, browsing the web, watching videos, and managing your files. However, as you’ve probably noticed to your frustration before, not all Symbian phones support all formats. This means you can have all manner of problems opening multimedia, accessing web content, or viewing files you’ve transferred from your computer. Help is at hand though, and there are a few crucial add-ons you should download and install in order to improve your smartphone experience. Here’s a quick run-through of what you need.

Video

If you have downloaded movies in DivX format then you might be wondering how to watch them on your phone. The answer is simple: install DivX Player Mobile. The program lets you watch DivX, AVI or MPEG movies in the player window or in full-screen mode. Control elements such as Play, Pause, Stop, Fast Forward and Rewind, as well as the volume can be controlled easily via buttons.

Another very popular video add-on is SmartMovie. It’s getting a bit long in the tooth now, and the interface looks very dated. However, it’s perfect for cropping and shrinking movie files to be stored and played on your phone. It also helps you install codecs onto your device that let you play video files you wouldn’t otherwise be able to.

Nokia Video Converter is also a massively popular app, and is designed to take care of all your video conversion needs. The app is designed to convert movies from popular files formats and DVDs in just a few clicks, preserving picture and sound quality as best it can. The application’s interface is very clearly labeled with large buttons for adding video, adding DVD, playing, and converting.

Audio

If you want to stream audio from the Internet to your phone then you will almost certainly need to install RealPlayer on your device. This app supports playback of RealAudio, RealVideo and 3GPP compliant content via streaming or download. You can even get access to news, sports, and entertainment updates.

Windows Media Audio (WMA) is a popular audio format that you’ll struggle to play on some of the older Nokia phones. Not, that is, unless you have WMAPlus! installed. Besides its low level support for WMA, the app doubles as an advanced player, which has a very cool graphical interface and skinning support.

Web content

If you want to access Flash content on your Symbian phone then you need to install either the Macromedia Flash Player, or Flash Lite on your device. Once you’ve done this, a whole world of games, video and interactive web content awaits you.

For the keen readers out there, MobiPocket Reader is another must-have Symbian app. The program grants you access to eBooks, RSS, online news and blog content, all within a simple user interface. MobiPocket Reader even comes with its own eBook store, including dictionaries, synchronized news channels, and text documents.

Reading PDF documents on your Symbian phone is out of the question, unless you have a reader installed. Adobe Reader LE is probably your best bet, as it permits fast and easy viewing by resizing PDF documents for the small screen.

Files

When it comes to managing and viewing files on your device, X-plore offers a great solution. The app lets you perform all the tasks you’d expect from a file manager, such as copying, renaming, deleting, editing, etc. It goes further than most though, facilitating extraction of compressed archives, file exploration within messaging folders, and powerful and reliable search. There’s even a task manager that lets you view your running processes.

Occasionally, you may have problems installing application files on your device due to certification errors. It’s very annoying, but also easily remedied by getting hold of Mobile Signer. Through a pretty straightforward user interface, this free software allows you to renew the signing of the programs directly from your own phone. This means you don’t need to hack your phone files whenever a digital signature has expired.

Microsoft announces that its mobile operating system will come with two different versions, one with a distinctly closer to young people and the media, while another directly linked to business and formal solutions.

The versions of Windows Mobile 7 are:

  • Business
  • Media

Will be released at different times, reaching the version "Media" in last place. The idea is to bring the latter social networks, use of internet applications, in addition to bringing new audio and video formats.

Both versions feature Microsoft Office Mobile. And one of the curiosities of this new operating system is that it could eliminate the mention of "Windows Mobile" to leave the name of the new operating system only in "Seven", which gives more simplicity compared to the competition that has names of just one word.

Apple reports Revenue Profits for Q1 2010

apple-macworld-jobs-m

Apple reported its financial results for Q1 2010 which ended December 26, 2009 and the results were nothing short of impressive. Apple posted its all time highest quarterly revenue, its all time highest quarterly profit and when annualized, these numbers will push Apple into a $50+ billion per year company. Dollar figures that are so impressive they don’t require an explanation, so we will let the numbers speak for themselves:

  • Revenue of $15.68 billion ($11.88 billion in Q1 2009)
  • 58% of revenue derived from international sales
  • Net quarterly profit of $3.38 billion or $3.67 per diluted share ($2.26 billion, or $2.50 per diluted share in Q1 2009)
  • Gross margin of 40.9 percent (37.9 % in Q1 2009)
  • $5.8 billion generated in cash
  •

Sales of Macintosh computers and iPhones went through the roof in Q1 2010 with Apple selling 3.36 million computers and 8.7 million iPhones, representing a 33% unit increase for Macintosh sales and 100% unit growth for the iPhone when compared to Q1 2009. The only blotch on an otherwise stellar performance was the iPod which sold 21 million units in Q1 2010, an 8% unit drop from the same quarter last year. Estimates for Q2 2010 remain equally as optimistic with the Cupertino company expecting another quarter of impressive revenue that will top out at an expected $11.4 billion. And oh yeah, Steve Jobs said, “The new products we are planning to release this year are very strong.

    official quote

“If you annualize our quarterly revenue, it’s surprising that Apple is now a $50+ billion company,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “The new products we are planning to release this year are very strong, starting this week with a major new product that we’re really excited about.”

“We are very pleased to have generated $5.8 billion in cash during the quarter,” said Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO. “Looking ahead to the second fiscal quarter of 2010, we expect revenue in the range of about $11.0 billion to $11.4 billion and we expect diluted earnings per share in the range of about $2.06 to $2.18.”

Apple will provide live streaming of its Q1 2010 financial results conference call utilizing QuickTime®, Apple’s standards-based technology for live and on-demand audio and video streaming. The live webcast will begin at 2:00 p.m. PST on January 25, 2010 at www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/earningsq110/ and will also be available for replay for approximately two weeks thereafter.

Remote Control your car using your Blackberry

    Viper_BlackBerry_270x481

Using the application from Directed Electronics for BlackBerry, called the Viper SmartStart app users can give a rest to their car keys and enjoy the luxury of starting their cars with their BlackBerry phones. Not only will Viper SmartStart enable users to remotely start their cars, but it will also let them pop their trunks, activate the panic siren, lock the car and unlock it from a distance. Now that sounds quite exciting! Like the application’s version for the iPhone, it is expected that Viper SmartStart for the BlackBerry phones will allow users to exercise control over multiple vehicles and at the same time, tighten the degree of security so that if someone manages to grab your phone, he doesn’t get your car as a free gift with your BlackBerry smartphone.

The application will be available from BlackBerry App World and also most probably from the website of Viper. The application is free of cost, but the hard wares required may fetch you a bill of $300 to $500. If you already have a compatible Viper remote start system, then you need to get the VSM100 Viper SmartStart upgrade module or the DSM100 Directed SmartStart module, both of them costing $299 each. The Viper SmartStart System VSS400 works with the application well, but costs a hefty $400. Added to it is the probability that the application may call for an active subscription to the services of Viper SmartStart, costing $29.99 after a free first year subscription.

Droid 2 or Nexus 2 in the pipeline ?

    nexus-two

At CES, Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha said a new version of the Motorola Droid would come with an improved keyboard, reported PCMag. I haven’t seen the story picked up anywhere else and the article doesn’t provide a direct quote so we’re left without knowing the direct context of the statement.

One would assume that a 2nd version of the Motorola Droid would come as a 2010 holiday followup to the first Droid. And don’t forget that Mr. Jha joined HTC CEO and Andy Rubin during the Nexus One Event, indicating they would also be manufacturers of Google branded/sponsored phones.

We’ve heard that the Nexus Two (Nexus One Pro) will be an “enterprise” device with a hardware keyboard  Andy Rubin supposedly said so himself  so could the Droid 2 become the Nexus Two?

Verizon/Motorola would want to abandon that DROID name but remember it isn’t owned and is only licensed by Verizon. The LG Voyager was a pretty darn popular device for Big Red but they abandoned that name, which was licensed from Plantronics, and instead rolled the brand into their existing enV line as the LG enV Touch.

    Samsung announces 32GB & 64GB Memory Chips

    Samsung-MicroSD-32GB

Samsung has just announced two new 30nm-class storage solutions designed for mobile devices: a 32GB MicroSD memory card, and a 64GB moviNAND memory chip.

The 32GB MicroSD memory card is only 1mm thick and it will enter mass production next month, so it should be available for purchase later this year.

It’s believed that the need for high capacity NAND flash memory modules will grow in the coming years with iSuppli predicting that demand for 32GB and higher storage capacity modules being as great as 530 million units in 2010 with this number increasing to 9.5 billion by 2013.

    press release

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced semiconductor technology solutions, today announced two high-density memory solutions for mobile devices. The new storage solutions – a 64-gigabyte (GB) moviNANDTM memory device and a 32GB micro secure digital (microSD) memory card – satisfy mobile handset designers’ requirements for advanced compact high-density memory.

“The 64GB embedded memory, moviNAND, and the 32GB microSD card each greatly expand the data storage density of mobile devices, meeting customers’ memory requirements and ushering in a new era of mobile and IT device capacity growth.”

“Samsung’s high-density memory solutions bring the storage capacity levels of computing systems to small, mobile devices,” said Dong-Soo Jun, executive vice president, memory marketing, Samsung Electronics.

He added, “The 64GB embedded memory, moviNAND, and the 32GB microSD card each greatly expand the data storage density of mobile devices, meeting customers’ memory requirements and ushering in a new era of mobile and IT device capacity growth.”

The memory solutions are based on Samsung’s advanced 32 gigabit (Gb) NAND flash. The 64GB moviNAND, which measures 1.4mm in height, consists of 16 30nm-class 32Gb MLC NAND chips and a controller. The 17-die stack was achieved by using 30-micron thick chips and advanced package technology. With the new 64GB solution, Samsung's proprietary embedded memory, moviNAND, is now available in 64GB, 32GB, 16GB, 8GB and 4GB densities.

The 32GB microSD card, developed this month, stacks eight 32Gb NAND components and a card controller. The industry’s highest capacity, production-ready microSD card is enabled by the use of Samsung’s advanced 30-nm class 32Gb NAND flash memory technology. Previously, the highest density microSD card in production had a 16GB capacity and was based on 40nm-class 16Gb NAND. The new 32GB card is 1mm-thick. The portion of the card that is inserted into a handset measures just 0.7 mm in height.

According to market research firm iSuppli, the global NAND flash memory market for 32GB and higher memory cards is forecast to be 530 million units in 2010 and reach 9.5 billion units by 2013 (in 16Gb equivalent units).

Samsung’s new 64GB moviNAND has been in mass production from December 2009, while the 32GB microSD is now being sampled with OEMs, with mass production expected next month.

Nexus One Sales are strong but less compared with iPhone

    108528_nexusiphone

The Google Nexus One is the hottest new Android phone, and a market analyst has come with a prediction that over 5 million of these devices will sell in 2010. That number is dwarfed by another analyst's predictions for Apple iPhone sales, though.

Doug Anmuth from Barclays Capital predicts that Google will sell between 5 and 6 million Nexus One units by the end of the year. That will bring in between $2.6 billion and $3.2 billion in revenue.

These figures include sales through T-Mobile USA, who is offering this smartphone now, and Verizon Wireless, who is going to pick it up in the spring.

Sales of the Nexus One should make Google a significant player in the smartphone market this year, but it's still likely to be well behind the top dog in this market, Apple.

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster estimates that U.S. iPhone sales in 2010 will be around 16 million, and global sales will reach 36 million. That's a significant increase over the 2009 figures, 11 million and 26 million, respectively.

Munster's prediction does not include the iPhone sales by Verizon, which unconfirmed reports say will start offering this smartphone this summer.

    Nexus-One-Flurry-Chart-Week1

Google Nexus One sold an anemic 20,000 units in its first week of sales. When we first looked at the data our initial thoughts were that sales may have been hindered by the Nexus One’s availability on a single network at time of launch. However, when we saw that the myTouch 3G, also available exclusively on T-Mobile at time of launch, sold 60,000 units in its first week, we started to think again. The chart also compares the N1’s sales figures with those of the Motorola DROID, 250,000 in week one (with a rumored $80M advertising budget), and, unfairly, with the iPhone 3GS, 1.6 million in week one (the iPhone was available in many countries and many networks at time of launch). What does this mean for Android? To be completely honest, not very much. It was however a very disappointing launch for the first of many, many Android powered phones by HTC and Google this year, especially with Google pumping out one of biggest AdWords campaigns we’ve ever seen.

Flurry monitors the usage of more than 10,000 developer applications on iPhone and Android platforms. It tracks over 25 million end user sessions per month. From that, it was able to figure out the first week sales for the Nexus One as well as prior phone launches such as the myTouch 3G, Droid, and iPhone 3GS. The iPhone 3GS sold more than a million units over the first three days of sales in June, 2009. The Droid, an Android phone built by Motorola and launched in November, sold 250,000 units in its first week, more than 12 times as much as the Nexus One.

The Nexus One may seem like a dud. It has gotten good reviews for features such as Google Voice and Google Maps. But Flurry notes that it hasn’t lived up to the early expectations, and distribution, pricing, and marketing have not been aggressive. Having real in-store representatives to let you touch and feel a phone — like the big carriers do — may turn out to be a competitive advantage. Consumers may not be used to going to a Web site to buy a phone; and they maybe stuck in the middle of a contract with a carrier, another disincentive for switching. While Verizon spent $100 million marketing the Droid, and has plenty of customers ready to upgrade, Google merely sells its device directly to consumers via its own web site. Google also launched after the holidays.

T-Mobile, the carrier partner for Nexus One, did not provide the same carrier co-marketing support as it did for the myTouch 3G launch. And Google has set its direct-to-consumer price for the Nexus One at over $500.

Google release Android 2.1 SDK | Nexus One OS

    68060_Android_2.1_Droid_1

One of the key features of the Nexus One has nothing to do with its hardware. The latest and greatest Android phone also is the first device to come with the new Android 2.1 OS. And while other phones, like the Droid, are going to get it too for you can also download the Android 2.1 SDK.

As noted on the Android Developers Blog, the team is releasing it before most devices have it so that developers can play around with and build for the new features introduced in 2.1. Though Google calls 2.1 a “minor platform release” over Android 2.0, there are a number of new elements such as voice recognition, live wallpapers, a new launcher, more home screens, and some WebKit changes. Those who have ported it over to the Droid note that the new OS is also faster.

Google also notes that there is a new USB manager available through the SDK Manager that supports the Nexus One. This may or may not be related to the new services that it seems like Google wants to include with the device, such as a new docking station for backing up your data.

You can find the new SDK here.

Droid Android 2.0.1 Update Bypasses screen lock

    1233226091686

Android OS version 2.0.1, which all up-to-date Droids are running, has a bug that makes it fairly easy to bypass the phone’s screen-lock security mechanism. The security feature, when working, requires users to input a pattern using onscreen dots before they can access most of the phone’s features (the iPhone offers a similar option).

Exploiting the bug is fairly simple: while receiving an incoming call on a Droid that has its Lock screen activated, you can simply hit the dedicated ‘Back’ button to bypass the lock and jump to the homescreen. This, of course, gives access to the owner’s Email account, cookied web pages, phone directory, and everything else stored on the phone. You can take a tiny bit of solace in the fact that the thief would have to know your phone number or wait for someone to call your phone to exploit the bug, but that’s not particularly reassuring. The issue was first reported earlier today by The Assurer, which says that it is apparently only affecting Android version 2.0.1 on the Droid.

Google about the issue, and a Google spokesperson gave us the following statement:

“We are aware of the issue and we’re working to deliver a fix to Motorola Droids shortly.”

ETRI accuses the manufacturers of violating seven patents for third-generation mobile telecommunications standards, including wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA). One of the suits dates from August 2009 and was filed in California, USA.The phone makers have allegedly violated seven of ETRI’s patents for 3G mobile telecommunications standards, including WCDMA.

Officials said ETRI expects to garner more than 300 billion won (US$268.09 million) in royalties from suits worth about 1 trillion won, while two companies have already agreed on payments of 20 billion won in royalties to ETRI, they added.

Verizon Palm Pre Plus Hands-On | Videos

    palm-pre-plus-handson

The Verizon Wireless powered Palm pre plus no longer has the trackball looking home button, replaced with a larger gesture area. This makes the device look cleaner, since it’s virtually flat across the entire front surface. We tested a few of the sliders and they felt improved. The keyboard is the most improved part of the Palm Pre Plus. It’s hard to put into words, but it’s a cross between the existing Palm Pre keyboard and the super-tactile Palm Pixi keyboard. The Palm Pre Plus has the same processor, memory and internals as the existing Palm Pre. The Palm Pre Plus offers 16GB of storage compared to the 8GB Palm Pre.

The Palm Pre Plus (and Palm Pre) support all the new 3D games. All webOS devices will support Flash and offer video recording, editing and sharing with webOS 1.4. Even more impressive is the Verizon-only Hotspot app. While we wait for pricing, it’s great value add to turn your Palm webOS device into a personal MiFi that allows connectivity for up to 5 devices. Our live blog was made possible with the MiFi - an overall great product. New webOS device owners will have the ability to turn their phone into their personal MiFi.

Overall,  the Palm Pre Plus offers some subtle, but nice improvements combined with the added storage. The Palm Pixi Plus adds the much needed WiFi component. A nice package when you consider it will be available on Verizon’s network Saturday.

Lenovo Lephone get Officially Pictured | Lephone Specifications

The D-pad makes sense ergonomically, but given we’ve complained both about left-side and right-side positions previously (Motorola CLIQ and DROID, we’re looking at you) at least it doesn’t make you stretch to reach the letter-keys. The high-polish chrome finish and angles certainly make it distinctive, and that’s pretty tough to do when most touchscreen-centric devices are gravitating toward a pretty generic aesthetic.

As for specifications, there’s a a 3.7-inch 480 x 800 touchscreen with a touch-control panel underneath, a WCDMA radio, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS, along with two cameras: a 3MP shooter on the back and a VGA one up-front for video calls.  The Lephone is set to arrive in China sometime in the first half of 2010.

T-Mobile Investigating Nexus One 3G issues | 3G Solution for Nexus One

    t-mobile

Nexusoneforum has kindly shared one way to forced your Nexus One onto 3G data speeds. Some users have reported that their phone won’t lock onto 3G and instead switches back to EDGE. Seems there’s a programming menu that will allow you to specify 3G speeds only. Now, I have no idea if this means you’re phone gets no data connection if you live in an EDGE only area so experiment with this at your own risk — and let us know how it turns out.

It appears the programming mode for Nexus One is entered via the phone

1- From dialer type in:  *#*#4636#*#*  this will take you to a phone info screen you will see a tab down the page that say's set preferred network type: go in and select GSM/CDMA Auto (PRL). this will get you so your phone goes between 3G & 2G much better automatically.

2-  from the dialer type in: *#*4636#*# this will lock your phone to the 3G network problem with this is your phone will not drop to 2G Automatically you will have to go to network settings and select 2G only. I did both and for me doing 1 Helped allot and is going between 3G & 2G automatically.

T-Mobile has come out and stated through their own forums, that they are “investigating” the issue and will “report back soon”. T-Mobile customers who are voicing their complaints loudly and frequently are quick to say that any issue seems to be handset related as those individuals coming from other T-Mobile 3G handsets had none of the same issues previously.

As the complaints mount, Google too needs to come right out and acknowledge the issue through their various methods of communication

Palm pre, pixi heading to Verizon January 25 Officially

    palm webos

Verizon Wireless is embracing Palm's slick webOS mobile operating system, a boon to the company whose well-received Pre and Pixi phones have been overshadowed by Apple's iPhone and an invasion of Google Android devices.

Palm and Verizon's new Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus, announced Thursday at CES, become available on January 25. Both have touch-screens and standard keyboards, and take advantage of Palm "Synergy" for neatly incorporating data from disparate sources into a single, easy-to-read view.

The most interesting feature: A downloadable app in Palm's App Catalog lets you take advantage of Verizon's 3G network and turn the new handsets into mobile hotspots that let you share a "personal Wi-Fi cloud" with up to five Wi-Fi-equipped devices, notebooks, cameras, and portable media players. For one, Verizon is in desperate need of some hot new phones on its network. Even though Verizon Wireless has always gotten high marks for its reliable wireless network, it has often been seen as a laggard in terms of getting the hottest new cell phones. AT&T has the exclusive deal with the iPhone. The first and second Android devices are being sold by T-Mobile USA. And Sprint Nextel was the first out of the gate with the Palm Pre. Verizon Wireless has an exclusive deal to carry the BlackBerry Storm, but many loyal BlackBerry users have complained about the touch screen. Research In Motion is readying a new version of the phone for later this year.

AT&T to get WebOS based Smartphones

    palm-unveils-palm-media-sync-twitter-integration-app-catalog-and-more-webos-features

AT&T Mobility's CEO revealed this week his company is prepping two smartphones running Palm's latest operating system, to go along with the two models Verizon will soon launch.

Ralph de la Vega used part of his keynote address at the Consumer Electronics Show to make this announcement, though he didn't go into much detail.

He did not name the webOS models he was referring to, and only said they would be out "soon".

Though de la Vega chose to not name names, there are only two webOS models out now: the Palm Pre and Pixi. His statements could mean that both of these are on the way to AT&T.

However, Palm unveiled updated versions of these two smartphones for Verizon Wireless at CES this week.  The Palm Pre Plus has twice as much storage capacity as its predecessor, and Pixi Plus adds Wi-Fi to its feature list. It's possible AT&T will get these two.

Or de la Vega could be looking a little farther away, and be talking about the second generation webOS devices that Palm is expected to launch this summer. That might stretch the meaning of a release coming "soon", though.

Whatever their exact configuration turns out to be, they will be the first webOS-based phones that use the GSM standard to be released in the United States, as both Sprint and Verizon use CDMA. The versions of the Pre and Pixi available in Europe use this wireless standard, though.

Palm itself has not said anything about this revelation from AT&T, instead choosing to focus its efforts at CES on Verizon's plan to launch its first webOS models later this month.

The Palm Pre and Pixi uses Palm's webOS, the replacement for the venerable Palm OS. This is a multi-tasking operating system able to wirelessly synchronize a wide variety of data with online services like Google, Yahoo, and Facebook, as well as Microsoft Exchange.

The webOS includes an on-device app store, and a growing collection of third-party software is available.

The Pre features a sliding keyboard as well as a multi-touch-capable touchscreen. This device is also equipped with Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, and a 3.0 megapixel camera with LED flash.

The Pixi can be thought of as the successor to Palm's popular Centro series. It has a tablet shape, with a 2.6-inch, 320-by-400-pixel, capacitive touchscreen. The Pixi is smaller, lighter, and less expensive than the Pre.

Dazzboard web-based photo sync for Android

At CES this week, Dazzboard launched version 2.0, which addresses a complaint users have had about Android since the platform launched almost two years ago: the lack of a real Web-based Android Market.

Frequently, when people who have never used an Android device want to check out what the platform has to offer in terms of apps, they go to android.com/market, Google's official presence for the app store on the Web.

Dazzboard 2.0 now features full Android application support, which means when you hook up your Android device to Dazzboard's webtop media manager, it recognizes all of your applications, and you can then back them up, move them around, or uninstall them. But it also includes an app store of its own, where you can browse and install new applications. It's not Google's Android Market, but instead a third party one with different apps you may not find in Google's. Dazzboard CEO Tero Salonen told us that content partnerships are developing, and Dazzboard's built-in app store will grow considerably as the year progresses.

Dazzboard supports Windows XP, Vista, and 7, Internet Explorer version 6 (XP only), 7 and 8, as well as Firefox 3.X. The company says it will also release APIs to let developers link their Web sites and services with devices connected to the Dazzboard webtop.

Sprint Product Line up has HTC Wimax Phone | Blackberry Tour 2 | Palmā€™s New Model

    sprint

Sprint has appeared on the Web, along with a few details of upcoming mobiles. This includes an HTC model with the 4G standard WiMAX, the recently-revealed BlackBerry Tour2, a mysterious smartphone running Palm's webOS.

    HTC and WiMAX
The WiMAX carrier Clearwire said this week that it is going to offer its first smartphone near the end of this year, with Sprint providing the voice service. It refused to give any details on this model, though.

According to newly leaked information, this device will be developed by HTC, who released the world's first WiMAX-enabled smartphone over a year ago. Sprint owns a significant percentage of Clearwire. The deception of this model notes that it will have a "bar" design, but gives no additional information.

    BlackBerry
The Blackberry Tour hit the market just a few months ago, but details of its successor have already come to light. This coming model will be a moderately enhanced version of the current one. One of the most significant changes in this upcoming model, the 9650, will be an optical trackpad in place of the trackball on the current version.

It is not known when Sprint will release this new version. The original debuted in July of last year.

In addition, this carrier will supposedly be getting a second-generation version of the BlackBerry Pearl Flip, the only clamshell ever offered by RIM.

The first-generation Flip was offered by T-Mobile and Verizon, but not Sprint.

    Palm webOS
Sprint launched the very first model running webOS, the Palm Pre, early last summer. It followed this up with the Palm Pixi in the fall. This carrier reportedly has a third Palm device listed in its product database. All that's known about it is designation: C.

What makes this model slightly mysterious is this designation is so different from the ones for the Pre and Pixi: the P100 and P120, respectively. A second generation Palm Pre, which conventional wisdom says is coming this summer, would more likely have the designation P200.

    Android for iDEN
When Sprint acquired Nextel, it also acquired its iDEN network. This carrier has continued to introduce new iDEN-based phones , and this supposedly includes one running Google's Android OS.

According to the leaked information, this device will be the Motorola i1, which will have a Touchscreen and a 5 MPx camera.

Lenovo LePhone Get a Snapdragon Processor

    lenovo-lephone_2

Lenovo's Android-running LePhone is expected to go on sale in China in mid-2010. Unlike the Dell Mini 3 smartphone, which AT&T announced it will offer exclusively in the United States in early 2010, the Lenovo mobile device currently has no U.S. distribution.

PC maker Lenovo on Jan. 5 introduced its LePhone smartphone, expected to launch in China in the first half of 2010.

LePhone runs Google's Android operating system, has Qualcomm's Snapdragon chip set, packs in WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access)-based 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS connectivity, and has a particularly slim frame: just 12 millimeters, or 0.47 inches. The display is quite large—3.7 inches, with a resolution of 800 by 400 pixels—and includes gesture-based navigation. In all, it's an oblong slab of a phone. Phone Scoop reported Jan. 6 that a 3-megapixel camera, a 3.5-mm audio jack and integrated Twitter and Facebook applications are all on board.

"Lenovo has made phones for Asian markets before; they just haven't been as well publicized or as competitive," Avi Greengart, an analyst with Current Analysis, told eWEEK. "What they launched yesterday has many of the same high-end features as Google's Nexus One by HTC. It's a bit thicker but still feels good in your hand, as it is nicely rounded."

Interop Experts Tom Hanrahan & Suzanne Forsburg Introduce the Lab Technical expert shows you how to slash 50% off enterprise Linux support New Strategies For Building Business Applications In 2010 Top 10 Things to Know About Data Protection. The Nexus One is 11.5-mm thin. The iPhone, to compare, is 12.3 mm, and the Motorola Droid is 13.7 mm.

In November, PC maker Dell also announced it had joined the smartphone space, with the introduction of the Mini 3, a touch-screen phone also running the Android OS. The Mini 3 debuted on the China Mobile network before heading to Brazil's Claro. "The difference between Dell's announcement and [Lenovo's] is that Dell was able to secure U.S. carrier distribution; the Lenovo phone is still aimed at China," Greengart said. On Jan. 6, AT&T announced that it would bring the Mini 3 to the United States in the first half of 2010 and that the offering would be exclusive. Analysts have called Dell's success in the smartphone space a "matter of managing expectations." "They have an established brand, and if they make a good product and target it properly, there's no reason they can't do well," Steve Baker. The same appears to apply to Lenovo. Rory Read, Lenovo president and chief operating officer, told Reuters, "Smartphones are just emerging in China, so we have an opportunity to very quickly gain share and grow very rapidly."
