Taiwan WiMAX licensee First International Telecom (Fitel) has signed a contract with Motorola for the purchase of WiMAX base stations and other equipment for its WiMAX infrastructure roll-outs, according to Fitel.
Fitel plans to complete the installment of a total of 45 WiMAX base stations in Hsinchu City, northern Taiwan before the end of February 2010 and then secure an operating license within one month, the company said. All local WiMAX licensees are required to obtain their operating licenses before the end of the first quarter of 2010 or will lose their rights to run WiMAX networks.
Fitel also plans to kick off its commercial WiMAX services in Hsinchu City initially before expanding its WiMAX network coverage into Taipei City, where the company has already installed 52 base stations, the company said.
