AT&T 4G LTE by August 21 Details | Devices Features

att-lte-4g

AT&T promised summer launches for its first LTE devices, and it's living up to the promise by delivering the USBConnect Momentum 4G and Mobile Hotspot Elevate 4G on Sunday, On Friday, a law firm accidentally posted a letter to the FCC website, detailing AT&T's confidential 4G LTE rollout plans and explaining how. After a long wait finally AT&T network is prepping out LTE Devices. The carrier plans to launch the faster network later this summer, but will start selling devices capable of running on both LTE and the HSPA+ network that AT&T has already started deploying. But AT&T users have to still wait for the network to be updated later this summer.

AT&T Rated Worst Network Carrier; Sprint better than Verizon Details Comparison

network
The Recent smartphones era raised a bar in Network Capabilities and Service. High end devices and phones with better connectivity options need a better network Carrier. Most of you people are not satisfied by the service or speed offered by their Carriers. Consumer Reports conducted a survey from 58,000 of its readers and found that AT&T was the only carrier to have a drop in its ratings in overall satisfaction. Over half of the respondents on AT&T had an iPhone, and they were much less satisfied with data service than their smartphone counterparts on other carriers that also consume similar sorts of data. CDMA carriers Verizon and Sprint bested the GSM side at T-Mobile and AT&T. Surprisingly, U.S. Cellular, which doesn't the entire nation yet, ranked at the top with a score of 82 overall. Verizon and Sprint were neck and neck at 74 and 73 respectively, with T-Mobile at 69 and AT&T at 60.
We take this seriously and we continually look for new ways to improve the customer experience. The fact is wireless customers have choices and a record number of them chose AT&T in the third quarter, significantly more than our competitors. Hard data from independent drive tests confirms AT&T has the nation's fastest mobile broadband network with our nearest competitor 20 percent slower on average nationwide and our largest competitor 60 percent slower on average nationwide. And, our dropped call rate is within 1/10 of a percent—the equivalent of just one call in a thousand—of the industry leader.
U.S. Cellular which serves 26 states, mostly in the South and Midwest beat out Verizon Wireless as the top-rated provider for contract service. Sprint has pulled even in overall satisfaction with Verizon, which has been the clear top provider in recent years since 2003. Sprint even scored better than Verizon in some aspects of customer service.

AT&T HSPA+ Network Upgrade 80% Complete USB Modem Shockwave

AirCard-890-HSPA-Modem-for-ATT

Eighty percent of AT&T's mobile network has been upgraded to HSPA+, which will offer two or two-and-a-half times the performance of HSPA 7.2, AT&T's current top-end cellular technology, Donovan said Tuesday. The carrier recently introduced USB modems that can use HSPA+ as well as LTE. It is also upgrading the backhaul from its cell sites to Ethernet on fiber links. Part of what is driving data growth is the growing popularity of "integrated devices," which AT&T defines as handsets with QWERTY keyboards and voice capability, typically smartphones. Today, 57 percent of AT&T's postpaid subscribers have integrated devices, up from 23.3 percent in 2008. AT&T is working on making it easier for small software houses to deal with a large carrier, avoiding delays that come from being referred back and forth among different groups, Donovan said. The aim is to help get applications onto AT&T's network in one-third the time, or quickly turn down those it's not interested in, he said. "We're trying to de-clutter our organization," he said. AT&T has invested "tens of millions of dollars" in the effort, he said. The AT&T Shockwave, an HSPA+ USB modem, is capable of running on the network, but AT&T doesn’t offer any HSPA+ capable handsets yet. AT&T has come under much criticism over the past few years for not keeping up with the demand for data capacity from the popular iPhone and other mobile devices. The carrier continues to upgrade its network to meet that demand, deploying HSPA+ this year and planning a LTE (Long-Term Evolution) rollout next year.

The carrier has established innovation centers in Palo Alto, California, Plano, Texas, and near Tel Aviv, Israel to work more closely with software creators, he said. The carrier wants to talk to 400 developers per year; it has met with 150 so far this year and expects to talk with 100 more this quarter. Also, T-Mobile plans to cover 100 markets and 200 million POPs with HSPA+ by year-end. AT&T, for its part, expects to cover 250 million POPs with HSPA+ by year-end. Further, AT&T plans to launch LTE service by the middle of next year and cover 70-75 million POPs with LTE by the end of 2011.

Palm Elan AT&T New webOS Mobile?

    palm-elan

TopTongueBarry a self-professed AT&T IT employee who posted saying that not only has testing finished for the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus, but that testing will soon begin for a mystery device codenamed Elan. AT&T testing for the Elan should begin within about two weeks, scuttlebut within AT&T says that the device should have a soft keyboard be released in Europe initially, but may be made available unlocked in the US. All that points to a iPhone / Nexus One format, as does the fact that some of the accessories Shadow-360 tracked down were also compatible with the iPhone. Elan is simply another code name for the O8F-CASC / US GSM Palm Pre Plus or it's what Shadow-360 and TopTongueBarry suspect something all-new and the most exciting thing going for webOS rumors given that Sprint's mysterious C40 still hasn't shown up.

According to TopTongueBarry who claims to work for AT&T, his company has just finished certification tests with GSM flavors of the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus ahead of a possible April 26th launch. However, the bigger news from Barry is that the big A will soon be testing a third mysterious webOS device by the name of Palm Elan, which may greet us mere mortals on May 10th (but possibly in Europe first).

AT&T Goes Eco Friendly | Slims Packing | Reduces Plastic Accessories

    att-greens-its-vehicle-fleet

AT&T unveiled requirements for manufacturers of mobile phones to reduce the environmental impact of future handsets. AT&T estimates that the packaging improvements for device chargers, cases, batteries and data cables will help to avoid more than 200 tons of wasted plastic and paper in 2010. According to earth911.com, recycling one ton of plastic saves 7.4 cubic yards of landfill space, and recycling one ton of paper saves more than 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space. So the environmental equivalents of the packaging changes equate to avoiding more than 1,100 cubic yards of landfill space  enough to house nearly 10 school buses by the end of 2010. Some of the improvements include using less paper and plastic in the packaging, getting rid of around 60% of the paper used and 30% of the plastic. The new packaging will also use inks that are not petroleum-based. The packages will also be slimmer, which could also save the amount (and size) of boxes used in shipping. Improving the packaging requirements for its accessories will actually save roughly 200 tons of wasted plastic and paper by the end of 2010. Considering we are already well into 2010, that can only mean the numbers in the year 2011 will be even better.

    AT&T New Handsets include:

    • Reduced packaging for phones, with non-petroleum based inks and recycled materials for in-box user manuals and other pieces of documentation
    • 75% of new devices must be at least 65% recyclable.
    • Most of the new devices must adhere to the GSMA Universal Charging Solution by 2011. We assume this means most AT&T phones will use the MicroUSB charging port in order to reduce waste from old unused chargers.
    • Each new device will comply with the EU mandate for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. Essentially, this will ensure no lead, mercury or other harmful materials are used.

AT&T to get WebOS based Smartphones

    palm-unveils-palm-media-sync-twitter-integration-app-catalog-and-more-webos-features

AT&T Mobility's CEO revealed this week his company is prepping two smartphones running Palm's latest operating system, to go along with the two models Verizon will soon launch.

Ralph de la Vega used part of his keynote address at the Consumer Electronics Show to make this announcement, though he didn't go into much detail.

He did not name the webOS models he was referring to, and only said they would be out "soon".

Though de la Vega chose to not name names, there are only two webOS models out now: the Palm Pre and Pixi. His statements could mean that both of these are on the way to AT&T.

However, Palm unveiled updated versions of these two smartphones for Verizon Wireless at CES this week.  The Palm Pre Plus has twice as much storage capacity as its predecessor, and Pixi Plus adds Wi-Fi to its feature list. It's possible AT&T will get these two.

Or de la Vega could be looking a little farther away, and be talking about the second generation webOS devices that Palm is expected to launch this summer. That might stretch the meaning of a release coming "soon", though.

Whatever their exact configuration turns out to be, they will be the first webOS-based phones that use the GSM standard to be released in the United States, as both Sprint and Verizon use CDMA. The versions of the Pre and Pixi available in Europe use this wireless standard, though.

Palm itself has not said anything about this revelation from AT&T, instead choosing to focus its efforts at CES on Verizon's plan to launch its first webOS models later this month.

The Palm Pre and Pixi uses Palm's webOS, the replacement for the venerable Palm OS. This is a multi-tasking operating system able to wirelessly synchronize a wide variety of data with online services like Google, Yahoo, and Facebook, as well as Microsoft Exchange.

The webOS includes an on-device app store, and a growing collection of third-party software is available.

The Pre features a sliding keyboard as well as a multi-touch-capable touchscreen. This device is also equipped with Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, and a 3.0 megapixel camera with LED flash.

The Pixi can be thought of as the successor to Palm's popular Centro series. It has a tablet shape, with a 2.6-inch, 320-by-400-pixel, capacitive touchscreen. The Pixi is smaller, lighter, and less expensive than the Pre.

      • A goal to offer all major smartphone OS app stores
      • An agreement with Qualcomm to standardize apps development for mid-range Quick Messaging Devices using BREW Mobile Platform. These devices are used by millions of customers who historically have not had the same convenient access as smartphone customers to the market’s hottest apps
      • A new AT&T SDK (software developer kit) to help developers immediately begin to develop apps for these devices
      • A significantly enhanced developer program and new relationships with global carriers that are intended to make it easier for developers to distribute apps in markets outside the U.S.
      • Future initiatives to enable developers to create more apps for AT&T’s U-verse TV, emerging consumer electronics devices, and businesses
      • A new AT&T Virtual Innovation Lab and two new Innovation Centers, which will help developers and spur apps development

“Applications help consumers realize the full value and benefits of mobile broadband networks, services and devices,” said Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “Today some AT&T customers can take advantage of more than 100,000 apps – but only if they have the right handset. Our goal is to bring more apps to millions more of our customers who want convenient access to the market’s hottest apps. At the same time, in the future, we plan to go well beyond mobile devices to spur apps development.”

Google Nexus One Heading to AT&T ?

    attnex-150x1031  nexusone

Virtually all the information on the Google Nexus One that come out so far indicates that it will fully support only T-Mobile's network, including its 3G network. The version that was approved by the FCC has support for only T-Mobile's version of HSPA, so AT&T customers using this device will limited to voice and the 2.5G standard EDGE.

However, an unconfirmed report says that Google is not going to put all its eggs in one basket, and will offer a second version of this Android OS smartphone with support for AT&T's 3G service.

    No Cooperation
All indications show that Google and T-Mobile will be working together to offer the Nexus one -- that's apparently not going to be the case with AT&T.

The version with full AT&T support will supposedly be sold unlocked, and without any direct link to this carrier's website. It will be up to customers to get service for this device.

While unlocked phones aren't rare, the vast majority of phones bought in the U.S. are purchased through wireless carriers, so Google is definitely going off the beaten path with the Nexus One.

An Early Overview of the Google Nexus One
Google has already handed out proto-type units of the Nexus One to many of its employees, so the details on this model are fairly well known.

It is almost certainly the HTC Bravo, and therefore will have a tablet shape with a 3.7-inch, WVGA, AM-OLED display and a trackball.

This smartphone will run Android OS 2.1 on a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, and offer 512 MB RAM. It will reportedly come with a 4 GB microSD card, and users will have the option to expand this up to 32 GB.

The gPhone, as it's sometimes called, will also include Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and stereo support.

In addition, this smartphone will reportedly have a 5 MPx camera with auto-focus and LED flash, a GPS receiver, accelerometer, and digital compass.

The outer casing will allegedly be 4.7 inches tall, 2.3 inches wide, and 0.5 inches thick (119 mm x 59 mm by 12 mm). It will weigh in at 4.6 oz. (130 g).

    Pricing & Availability
The Google Nexus One is expected to to be unveiled at a press conference already scheduled for January 5.
