Virtually all the information on the Google Nexus One that come out so far indicates that it will fully support only T-Mobile's network, including its 3G network. The version that was approved by the FCC has support for only T-Mobile's version of HSPA, so AT&T customers using this device will limited to voice and the 2.5G standard EDGE.

However, an unconfirmed report says that Google is not going to put all its eggs in one basket, and will offer a second version of this Android OS smartphone with support for AT&T's 3G service.

No Cooperation
All indications show that Google and T-Mobile will be working together to offer the Nexus one -- that's apparently not going to be the case with AT&T.

The version with full AT&T support will supposedly be sold unlocked, and without any direct link to this carrier's website. It will be up to customers to get service for this device.

While unlocked phones aren't rare, the vast majority of phones bought in the U.S. are purchased through wireless carriers, so Google is definitely going off the beaten path with the Nexus One.

An Early Overview of the Google Nexus One
Google has already handed out proto-type units of the Nexus One to many of its employees, so the details on this model are fairly well known.

It is almost certainly the HTC Bravo, and therefore will have a tablet shape with a 3.7-inch, WVGA, AM-OLED display and a trackball.

This smartphone will run Android OS 2.1 on a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, and offer 512 MB RAM. It will reportedly come with a 4 GB microSD card, and users will have the option to expand this up to 32 GB.

The gPhone, as it's sometimes called, will also include Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and stereo support.

In addition, this smartphone will reportedly have a 5 MPx camera with auto-focus and LED flash, a GPS receiver, accelerometer, and digital compass.

The outer casing will allegedly be 4.7 inches tall, 2.3 inches wide, and 0.5 inches thick (119 mm x 59 mm by 12 mm). It will weigh in at 4.6 oz. (130 g).

Pricing & Availability
The Google Nexus One is expected to to be unveiled at a press conference already scheduled for January 5.
