Cooliris, innovator of the fastest and most stunning way to engage with media on desktops or devices, today announced a partnership with Google to bring a unique and innovative media gallery to the Android experience, which will be released on the Nexus One smartphone.
The Gallery, developed by Cooliris, provides the Nexus One device with the smooth, intuitive and efficient media browsing capabilities that are the hallmark of Cooliris applications. Additionally, Cooliris announced it has joined the Open Handset Alliance with other leaders in the mobile industry.
Gallery Provides Mobile Media Innovations for the Nexus One
The new Gallery application for the Nexus One smartphone is designed to deliver an intuitive, efficient and visually stunning user experience optimized for interacting with photos and videos on the touchscreen mobile device.
“Cooliris delivers products and experiences that make the web more exciting, cool and useful for consumers,” said Andy Rubin, Vice President, Google. “The Gallery, developed by Cooliris, is a perfect example of how the Android platform can be leveraged to create differentiated experiences on smartphones and other devices. We are pleased to have Cooliris join the Open Handset Alliance and bring their expertise in enabling great experiences to the Android platform.”
The Gallery is the first native mobile product to make browsing, organizing, sharing
and editing media simple, in one seamlessly integrated application.
Because consumers store large amounts of media on their mobile devices, the Gallery is designed to scan quickly through thumbnails of media and loads the high-resolution versions on selection. This makes it easy and efficient for users to quickly browse their photos and videos. Using geolocation and tagging, users can sort their media into digital stacks by date, time and location, making it easier to find and organize photos and videos.
Users can also pull existing albums from their desktops or access Picasa web albums. A notable feature of the Gallery is the two-way sync with Picasa albums, allowing users to dynamically update and access their Picasa media on-the-go.
From within the Gallery application, users can also easily share their videos and images. In just one step, images, videos, or entire albums can be shared through email, MMS messaging, Picasa, or a Bluetooth connection. This multi-share capability is completely unique to the Gallery on the Nexus One smartphone.
In addition to working with the photo and video capabilities of the Nexus One smartphone, the Gallery also integrates with other Nexus One applications that leverage rich media.
Open Handset Alliance Details
By joining the Open Handset Alliance and contributing the Gallery application to the Android open source project, Cooliris demonstrates its commitment to supporting open web technologies.
As a member, Cooliris will join other major technology and mobile companies who have come together to accelerate innovation and offer consumers a richer, less expensive and more effective mobile experience via Android.
“Cooliris is committed to providing the most compelling and easy-to-use applications for consuming media across multiple devices, including mobile and desktop,” said Soujanya Bhumkar, co-founder and CEO, Cooliris. “We are honored to join together with Google, the Open Handset Alliance and the open source community in order to collaborate and move Android even further ahead in delivering the ultimate mobile consumer experience.”
