Snapdragon Dual-core 1.5GHz 8X72 chipset by end of 2010

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset is the hottest mobile device chipset out there in market – you’ll find its 1GHz thrumming away in the HTD HD2, Google Nexus One and various Smartbooks announced at CES 2010 this week.  The company’s SVP of product management, Luis Pineda, has just revealed that there are at least two more versions of Snapdragon to come in 2010, running at up to 1.5GHz.

First up will be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8X50A, a 45nm version of the current chip and clocked at 1.3GHz.  That will begin sampling to manufacturers later in January 2010, with the first products using expected by the end of the year.  It’ll be followed by a dual-core Snapdragon, the 8X72, with twin 1.5GHz Scorpion cores, before 2010 is out.  No definitive specifications, but according to Pineda the 8X72 will be suitable for both smartphones and smartbooks and capable of 1080p High Definition.
