Google TV Remote App for iOS Available Download iTunes Link

google-tv-app

Google TV app was released for android last december and after four months it was developed to iOS devices. Remote App for Google TV has been launched for iPhone/ iPad. The app is now available for iPhones, iPads, and iPods running iOS 3 version or higher.

  • Your phone improves standard TV remote activities like changing channels or accessing your DVR. I love using it at night, because the back light means I can see all the buttons in the dark and the buttons are easy to find. Watch
  • You can also interact with your TV in ways you never have before. For instance, try using the voice search to find your favorite shows and movies just by speaking into your phone. There should be less fighting over the remote, too, since multiple phones can work as remotes at the same time—you just need to agree on what to watch!

Android 2.3 Gingerbread Download Features SDK

android 2.3

After the great reception of Android 2.2 froyo Android’s next leap to Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread is on the way. Android 2.3 is made live and available for Download to Developers. Android 2.3 adds API support for several new sensor types, including gyroscope, rotation vector, linear acceleration, gravity, and barometer sensors. Applications can use the new sensors in combination with any other sensors available on the device, to track three-dimensional device motion and orientation change with high precision and accuracy. For example, a game application could use readings from a gyroscope and accelerometer on the device to recognize complex user gestures and motions, such as tilt, spin, thrust, and slice. It seems google has taken gaming seriously and concentrated mainly on quality & performance of Games & Media.  It seems google has taken Gaming seriously Android 2.3 brings huge improvement to Gaming & Media performance.

Enhancements for game development: To improve overall responsiveness, we’ve added a new concurrent garbage collector and optimized the platform’s overall event handling. We’ve also given developers native access to more parts of the system by exposing a broad set of native APIs. From native code, applications can now access input and sensor events, EGL/OpenGL ES, OpenSL ES, and assets, as well a new framework for managing lifecycle and windows. For precise motion processing, developers can use several new sensor types, including gyroscope.

Rich multimedia: To provide a great multimedia environment for games and other applications, we’ve added support for the new video formats VP8 and WebM, as well as support for AAC and AMR-wideband encoding. The platform also provides new audio effects such as reverb, equalization, headphone virtualization, and bass boost.

New forms of communication: The platform now includes support for front-facing camera, SIP/VOIP, and Near Field Communications (NFC), to let developers include new capabilities in their applications.

Google Nexus Two by Samsung Features Specs Details

nexustwo

Samsung revealed that it would be launching a new Android device at a November 8 event in New York City. Today Android and Me is reporting that this event is actually the launch of the Nexus Two, the successor to Google's HTC-built Nexus One, which was launched earlier this year.

Citing multiple sources (all anonymous) Android and Me reports that the Nexus Two will ship with Gingerbread (aka Android 2.3) and will launch in time for the holidays. Specs, pricing, carrier and release date remain to be seen but considering Samsung's impressive Galaxy S line-up, we've got pretty high hopes.

The Samsung “Nexus Two” phone will feature:

  • Stock Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
  • 1.2 GHz processor
  • 4 inch AMOLED display
  • 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and HD video capture (don’t know about flash), front-facing camera
  • 512 MB RAM, 16 GB internal storage
  • Support for multiple carriers (radios are unknown)
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, 3.5 mm headset jack,
  • Outer casing is a mix of metal and plastic materials

This rumor comes to light after reports that said Motorola would be building the Nexus Two. The company said earlier this year that one of its 2010 Android phones would be a direct-to-consumer phone for Google. This week, London-based newspaper City-AM cited an anonymous source in reporting that Motorola would ship the Nexus Two before the end of the year. However, this report also indicated that previous rumors about a Samsung-built Nexus Two were inaccurate. Whatever happens, we'll be at the Samsung event in NYC so we'll be sure to keep you posted on this one.

Google Nexus one launched a year ago which was not successful now gets a  successor hope this one impresses better.

FroYo Android 2.2 Update Features & Improvements

 Android-Logo-Leaning
The latest android update features many new optimizations. There are shortcuts for the phone, app launcher and browser at the bottom of all the home screen panels and the main Home screen has a 'tips widget' for new users explaining what the launcher is, where the other panels are, how to add, move and delete shortcuts and widgets (and how to get rid of this very basic widget once you've mastered the Home screen). The camera also gets a slightly new interface, with five on-screen buttons that you can tap to set geotagging, white balance, focus exposure and zoom. The mobile-optimised videos on the Warner Brothers and ExpixHD sites are higher quality and look more detailed, especially after the first few seconds of streaming. Full 720p video on the Yahoo Movies site looks great when it plays, but it's very bursty and pauses repeatedly. Other promised features in Android 2.2 don't yet work, like being able to choose whether to install downloaded apps to main memory or the SD card. When you look at your apps in the Settings menu there's a greyed-out 'Move to SD card' button for each app, but apps will need to be written specially to let you install them on the SD card in the first place or move them there later.

Google Sharing Revenue to Increase Android Market?

Google_News

Google is sharing advertising revenues with carriers that use Android, according to multiple sources. Sources Say, Google is also cutting deals with the handset makers. The revenue-sharing agreements only occur when the handsets come with Google applications, like search, maps and Gmail, since that is not a requirement of Android. Google declined to comment, and said terms of its agreements with partners are confidential. A number of carrier and handset makers also declined to comment.

Some handset makers may be forced to do similar deals, but for those who aren’t in the advertising business, it could be trouble. On the flip-side, this is good news for carriers, which have been looking for new revenue sources that could help pay for the next generation of networks that will cost billions. And google is out there.

Advertisements in applications like gmail and maps are nearly non-existent, with the vast majority being displayed in search results. However, by many estimates the mobile advertising is set to take off. Google has agreed to pay $750 million for the mobile ad network AdMob. Google has been clear from the start that it planned to give away the operating system and make money on advertising, but new twist is to share in those money.

Samsung announced the new high-end Galaxy S, while Sprint (NYSE: S) announced its first 4G phone developed by HTC, and AT&T (NYSE: T) announced that the Dell phone will be available soon.  Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt had a keynote address at MCW. At the show, he said the company doubled the number of phones it was shipping over the past quarter to 60,000 handsets a day. Google could ship roughly 22 million phones this year by estimation. If it continues to double every quarter, it could hit 27 million.

“We share revenue on search, not on mobile applications,” a Google spokesperson said. “The same is true for non-Android devices that use Google as the default search engine.”

This was the recent comment from Google regarding this Mobile Ad Revenue Sharing.

Google Maps 4.1 updated with Latitude Widget and much more

milkpail

Google Maps version 4.1 is now available on Android 1.6+ devices, adding a few new features. In addition to a Latitude widget and reworked search results, Google now allows you to use a Google Map as one of your Live Wallpapers. Now you can even track your current location using GPS/aGPS and show live traffic data, right there on your homescreen. Another huge addition is support for multiple accounts, so if you’ve got a personal and a work email account for instance, you can get the information you’re looking for on either depending on your situation. With the newly reimagined Google Maps for mobile search results page, we’ve done away with the tabs to give you all the info you want on one page. Tap the new buttons to see the place on the map, get directions, call it, or see it with Street View. The extra space let us bring details and reviews right up front. Add the Latitude widget to a home screen panel to see your nearest Latitude friends by pressing the “Menu” button from the home screen and selecting Add > Widgets > Latitude. On Android 2.1+ phones, you can also turn your home screen into one big, updating map using the Maps live wallpaper. Press the “Menu” button from your home screen and select Wallpaper > Live wallpapers > Maps. Now you can see nearby friends or a map each time you open your home screen.

Nexus One Lite Making its way to India?

google-nexus-one3

Nexus One is currently the hottest device you can by at the moment. HTC is the hardware manufacturer, and surely the internals of the Nexus One were up to par with Google’s standards. The N1 is available in select countries at the moment, but rumor has it that the device will be coming to India soon, only slightly lite version hardware wise.

This is in no way confirmed, but the N1 is a premium device, and to make it cheaper means lowering some specifications. The core features of the device will stay the same; screen size, Snapdragon, software, etc. What is more probable to be shaved down is internal memory, camera megapixel count, and so on. It’s also rumored that the Indian version will be slightly slimmer.

Where some people may think it bad of Google to shave off some specifications of their device down, but that's a good idea, to offer both the Nexus One and the Nexus One (.5) in their online store, available to anyone, U.S. included, and not just India. Not everyone wants to drop $530 dollars on a phone, and not everyone wants to switch to America’s 4th largest carrier. What we are unsure of as of now is whether this Nexus One would be a completely new phone or just  a stripped down barebones version of the original with a few chips missing. We believe even the cheaper Nexus One will boast of the main features of the phone namely, the 3.7-inch screen and the uber fast Snapdragon processor. The things that might see a compromise would be the camera and other features like Internal memory. These are just speculations and we'd soon be informed how different this poor man's Nexus One turns out to be.

Motorola to ditches Google for Bing Search & Maps on Android Smartphones

Motorola_0bingapp Motorola’s Android smartphones sold in China will see Google search and Google Maps replaced by Bing search and Bing Maps. Devices currently in the hands of consumers or sitting unsold on store shelves will be getting an OTA update. Both Motorola and Microsoft have not announced any specific plans to expand on their partnership outside of China based on “Global alliance”. Android-based phones will have a Bing bookmark pre-loaded and an enhanced search widget with Bing integration - although customers will be able to switch to another default search engine if they choose.

"We believe that consumer choice is one of the most critical components to ensuring a rich and seamless client experience," said Christy Wyatt, corporate vice president of software and services, Motorola Mobile Devices. "Motorola and Microsoft have enjoyed a longstanding collaboration and the addition of Bing services to our Android-based smartphones in China is another important step in empowering our end-users."

"Mobile devices continue to be a critical place for customers to access location-based services such as local search and mapping," said Yusuf Mehdi, senior vice president of the Online Services Division at Microsoft. "We are pleased to expand our long-standing relationship with Motorola to bring powerful Bing location-based services to Motorola's innovative new mobile devices, providing consumers with more choice and flexibility in mobile search."

Search and Maps capabilities through Microsoft will initially be available in China, starting in Q1 2010, through either pre-load or over-the-air updates for devices already in market.

Google Nexus One Update Enables Google Goggles, Multi-Touch, 3G Fixes

nexusoneupdate

Nexus One owners finally have something to be upbeat about – Google has released an over-the-air update enabling multitouch (finally), Google Goggles (again, finally), and some 3G fixes (triple thumbs-up).

According to Google, the update will include:

Google Goggles: this mobile application will now be available directly on your device by launching it from your All Apps menu. Just use your Nexus One camera to start searching the web

Google Maps: the Maps application with be updated to a new version, Google Maps 3.4, which will include:

  • Starred items synchronized with maps.google.com – access your favorite places from your phone or computer
  • Search suggestions from your personal maps.google.com history – makes it easy to search for places you’ve searched for before
  • Night mode in Google Maps Navigation – automatically changes your screen at night for easier viewing and driving

Pinch-to-zoom functionality: devices will now include a new pinch-to-zoom mechanism in the phone’s Browser, Gallery and Maps applications

3G connectivity: we will provide a general fix to help improve 3G connectivity on some Nexus One phones

Apparently in order to access the update, you’ll need to wait until you “receive a message on your phone’s notification bar. Just download the update, wait for it to install, and you should be all set. This update will be rolled out gradually to phones – and most users might not receive the notification until the end of the week.”

T-Mobile Investigating Nexus One 3G issues | 3G Solution for Nexus One

t-mobile

Nexusoneforum has kindly shared one way to forced your Nexus One onto 3G data speeds. Some users have reported that their phone won’t lock onto 3G and instead switches back to EDGE. Seems there’s a programming menu that will allow you to specify 3G speeds only. Now, I have no idea if this means you’re phone gets no data connection if you live in an EDGE only area so experiment with this at your own risk — and let us know how it turns out.

It appears the programming mode for Nexus One is entered via the phone

1- From dialer type in:  *#*#4636#*#*  this will take you to a phone info screen you will see a tab down the page that say's set preferred network type: go in and select GSM/CDMA Auto (PRL). this will get you so your phone goes between 3G & 2G much better automatically.

2-  from the dialer type in: *#*4636#*# this will lock your phone to the 3G network problem with this is your phone will not drop to 2G Automatically you will have to go to network settings and select 2G only. I did both and for me doing 1 Helped allot and is going between 3G & 2G automatically.

T-Mobile has come out and stated through their own forums, that they are “investigating” the issue and will “report back soon”. T-Mobile customers who are voicing their complaints loudly and frequently are quick to say that any issue seems to be handset related as those individuals coming from other T-Mobile 3G handsets had none of the same issues previously.

As the complaints mount, Google too needs to come right out and acknowledge the issue through their various methods of communication

Google Phone Plan Very Difficult to Pull Off Says Microsoft

DD138AA9E88492259A1704BD5CD2C

Microsoft Corp.’s Robbie Bach, head of the division that makes mobile-phone programs, said Google Inc. will have a hard time attracting partners to its wireless software after introducing its own handset.
Google started selling the Nexus One phone this week. The company also provides its Android operating system to other handset makers, rivaling Microsoft’s Windows Mobile. Because Google now sells its own phone, handset makers may worry the company will prioritize its own product over theirs, Bach said. That could push some to stop using Google’s software, he said.
“Doing both in the way they are trying to do both is actually very, very difficult,” he said in an interview yesterday from the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. “Google’s announcement sends a signal where they’re going to place their commitment. That will create some opportunities for us and we’ll pursue them.”
Google’s wireless efforts escalate the company’s competition with Microsoft, a rivalry that spans Web search, browsers and business applications such as word processing and spreadsheets. The Android program is adding users faster than Windows Mobile, according to research firm iSuppli Corp.
The Nexus One is manufactured by Taiwan’s HTC Corp., which designed the device with Google. Google opened an online store for the Nexus One and also plans to offer other Android devices through the site. The company’s aim is to efficiently connect Google’s online customers with Android devices, said Katie Watson, a spokeswoman for the company.
“We want to make the overall user experience simple,” she said in an e-mail. “Our hope is to change the way consumers purchase a mobile phone.”
Trailing IPhone, BlackBerry
“No one has ever succeeded in selling their own device while trying to license to partners simultaneously,” said Michael Gartenberg, an analyst at Los Angeles-based research firm Interpret LLC. “As much as Google can say it’s not a Google phone, the phone says Google on it. They’re going to have to convince their licensees they’re not in competition with them.”
Microsoft’s Windows Mobile hasn’t kept pace with the growth in sales of Apple Inc.’s iPhone, Android phones and Research In Motion Ltd.’s BlackBerry, according to El Segundo, California- based iSuppli. Windows Mobile 6.5 went on sale last year to critical reviews.
In October, ISuppli forecast that Microsoft would lose its No. 2 spot in the smartphone market to RIM.
Microsoft remains focused on working with phone makers and carriers, Bach said. The Redmond, Washington-based company does pitch in on engineering work when partners are developing phones, he said.
“Over time you have to decide whether your approach is with the partners or more like an Apple approach that is more about Apple,” he said. “Google’s is an interesting step. We’ll see how people react.”
Motorola Phones
Microsoft fell 47 cents to $30.30 at 2:12 p.m. New York time in Nasdaq Stock Market trading. Google, based in Mountain View, California, declined $12.42 to $595.84.
Motorola Inc., the largest U.S. phone maker, showed a new Android model at the Consumer Electronics Show yesterday, after introducing its first two phones running the software last year.
Mobile carriers may be concerned that Google requires Nexus One users to sign up for a contract through Google, allowing Google to control the customer relationship, Gartenberg said.
Microsoft, whose Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer spoke at the show last night, isn’t making many phone-related announcements at the event. Instead, the company plans to provide an update to its “future direction” at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month, Bach said

Google Nexus One Facing 3G Connectivity Problems

nexusone_1

Google’s Android smartphone, the Nexus One, seems to have some problems with 3G reception.

There’s a long thread over at the Google support forums, where some of the new Nexus One owners are reporting 3G connectivity issues in the US.

It looks like the HTC-made smartphone gets a weak 3G signal from time to time, and even switches to EDGE, while other T-Mobile phones have good reception.

Nexus One users to report the problems as:

“I switched from a Moto Cliq, where I had 3-4 bars of 3G in my house constantly, to a Nexus One. I now either get 1 or no bars of 3G. I made sure that always use 2G was disabled, and I can’t seem to figure out what the problem is.”

“I upgraded from a Blackberry Pearl to the Nexus One. I cannot get any 3G service as of yet. Don’t know what the problem is. T-mobile and HTC support weren’t able to help.”

“I’m having this same problem. My G1 has 3G with full strength, but sitting right next to it my Nexus has 1 bar of 3G and keeps switching to Edge. If I let it sit for a while it may go up to 3 bars of signal strength but as soon as I start trying to use it the signal strength drops back down to one bar. I called T-mobile to make sure that I didn’t need to activate the phone or something to get 3G service. They said my account looked fine and that they couldn’t give me any more support since I had a Nexus One, that I had to call HTC. So I called HTC and they said that your 3G service is a T-mobile issue and they couldn’t help me. The fact that my G1 works perfectly sitting right next to the Nexus though makes me think it really is a problem with the phone.”

So it might be a problem related just to T-Mobile’s 3G (the carrier uses the not-so-common 1700MHz frequency). No one from the UK, Singapore or Hong Kong reported any issues with Nexus One’s 3G performance. Lets hope HTC fixes all these issues.

  • 13 New members of the OHA including China Telecom, NEC and Freescale
  • Discussing the growth of hardware and software… from the G1 to the Droid: “20 devices, 59 carriers, 48 countries, 19 languages”
  • They talk about taking Android to the next level and officially announce the Nexus One
  • HTC CEO comes on stage to share some key specs while holding the phone: 3.7″ AMOLED display, 1GHz processor, Android 2.1 3D graphics, 480 x 800 pixel resolution
  • 2 microphones for voice cancellation
  • You can get your Nexus One ENGRAVED!
  • 5 homescreens
  • News and weather widget with GPS
  • 3D elements like Live Wallpaper, App Drawer, Photo Gallery
  • Clustered picture galleries by date/location
  • Voice activation for EVERY text field on the phone
  • Google Earth for Android
  • They just coined the term “superphones”, a new class that the Nexus One falls in
  • Google announces a hosted web store for locked/unlocked Android Phones at http://google.com/phone
  • The phone will currently be available with a T-Mobile contract but Verizon/Vodafone offerings are coming in Spring and Google is working on adding not only more carriers… but also MORE DEVICES to their list of sponsored superphones!
  • $529 unlocked, $179 with T-Mobile 2-year contract
  • You need a Google Account to buy the phone because it uses Google Checkout. You would need a Google Account to use the phone anyways… so its not that big of a deal. Slowly but surely Google is sucking you in to use ALL of their services!
  • It’s really quick and easy to order – I know because I did so myself.
  • Overnighted if you buy it now or 72 hours if you get it engraved
  • Motorola is also getting involved (fact, their CEO was on stage) and will likely be the 2nd phone in Google’s web store (speculation, by me)

Then came the Q&A which, if you saw it, was absolutely BRUTAL. The question askers pulled no punches and in some cases playfully confrontational. In any case, here are some of the goodies to come out of the Q&A:

  • Future versions of Android will allow for Apps to be installed on the SD card.
  • Google is the merchant of record and you purchase the phone from Google… but the manufacturer is HTC. This is interesting in terms of supply chain – I wonder how much Google is paying HTC for each unlocked device?
  • Engadget asked about Multi-touch support in terms of the Droid vs. Milestone issue and nobody seemed to have an answer. Even Peter Chou said “The HTC Hero has multi-touch” but they just said “it is something we’ll look at” when talking about the Nexus One.
  • Motorola is going to try and update the Droid to Android 2.1 – or as much of it as they can and this should happen relatively soon!
