AT&T Rated Worst Network Carrier; Sprint better than Verizon Details Comparison

The Recent smartphones era raised a bar in Network Capabilities and Service. High end devices and phones with better connectivity options need a better network Carrier. Most of you people are not satisfied by the service or speed offered by their Carriers. Consumer Reports conducted a survey from 58,000 of its readers and found that AT&T was the only carrier to have a drop in its ratings in overall satisfaction. Over half of the respondents on AT&T had an iPhone, and they were much less satisfied with data service than their smartphone counterparts on other carriers that also consume similar sorts of data. CDMA carriers Verizon and Sprint bested the GSM side at T-Mobile and AT&T. Surprisingly, U.S. Cellular, which doesn't the entire nation yet, ranked at the top with a score of 82 overall. Verizon and Sprint were neck and neck at 74 and 73 respectively, with T-Mobile at 69 and AT&T at 60.

The fact is wireless customers have choices and a record number of them chose AT&T in the third quarter, significantly more than our competitors. Hard data from independent drive tests confirms AT&T has the nation's fastest mobile broadband network with our nearest competitor 20 percent slower on average nationwide and our largest competitor 60 percent slower on average nationwide. And, our dropped call rate is within 1/10 of a percent—the equivalent of just one call in a thousand—of the industry leader.
U.S. Cellular which serves 26 states, mostly in the South and Midwest beat out Verizon Wireless as the top-rated provider for contract service. Sprint has pulled even in overall satisfaction with Verizon, which has been the clear top provider in recent years since 2003. Sprint even scored better than Verizon in some aspects of customer service.

T-Mobile HSPA+ coming March 14 Speeds upto 21 MBps

T-Mobile might call their new HSPA+ network “4G” they were very quick to point out that was not the case. T-Mobile chose to inform us of their network upgrade schedule and said they would “integrate HSPA+ into its 3G network with broad national deployment planned for this year.”

T-Mobile has apparently decided to refer to HSPA+ as Very Fast Mobile Web according to some leaked documents on TmoNews. The flavor of HSPA+ that T-Mobile is using maxes out at 21 Mbps and they claim it will offer “home broadband like speeds on the go”.

The first device from T-Mobile to support HSPA+ will be the webConnect Rocket which launches on March 14. The device will only be sold in pilot markets where HSPA+ service Installed. We believe this is part of the backhaul upgrade that T-Mobile revealed last month.

The pilot markets for the HSPA+ webConnect Rocket include:

  • Dallas, TX
  • Miami, FL
  • Los Angeles, CA
  • Chicago, IL
  • and maybe Philadelphia, PA (current test market for HSPA+)

Clearance for T-Mobile & Orange mobile to Merge

The European Commission is expected to fast-track the deal after the two companies offered key concessions to ease the concerns of competition and industry watchdogs in the UK. The tie-up between the British arm of Deutsche Telekom’s T-Mobile, and Orange UK, a subsidiary of France Telecom. The two plan to form a joint venture with some 30 million customers, allowing it to overtake O2 as Britain’s biggest player  with 37% of the market Share.

The deal met with opposition from the Office of Fair Trading, the competition regulator, Ofcom, the industry watchdog, and rival mobile-phone operators. This month the OFT requested that it be granted the right to rule on the merger. Orange and TMobile have agreed to give up some bandwidth, prompting both the OFT and Ofcom to tell the European Commission. The commission has until March 1 to decide whether to refer the inquiry to the UK authorities, but the behind-the-scenes deal now makes this unlikely. One key concession concerns 3, Britain’s smallest mobile operator, and its network-sharing agreement with T-Mobile. Another concession has seen the two companies offer to relinquish up to a quarter of the valuable 1,800MHz bandwidth. If the merger goes ahead, the enlarged group is expected to continue using both the Orange and T-Mobile brands. Phone charges could fall as a result of the deal.

T-Mobile has released a new version of the myTouch 3G. It now offers more memory, twice as much storage, and a more standard headphone jack, but the price for this Android OS-based smartphones stays the same.The new version which goes under the same name as its predecessor is bundled with an 8 GB microSD memory card, while its predecessor came with a 4 GB one. It also has more RAM than the original: 288 MB.

T-Mobile Investigating Nexus One 3G issues | 3G Solution for Nexus One

Nexusoneforum has kindly shared one way to forced your Nexus One onto 3G data speeds. Some users have reported that their phone won’t lock onto 3G and instead switches back to EDGE. Seems there’s a programming menu that will allow you to specify 3G speeds only. Now, I have no idea if this means you’re phone gets no data connection if you live in an EDGE only area so experiment with this at your own risk — and let us know how it turns out.

It appears the programming mode for Nexus One is entered via the phone

1- From dialer type in:  *#*#4636#*#*  this will take you to a phone info screen you will see a tab down the page that say's set preferred network type: go in and select GSM/CDMA Auto (PRL). this will get you so your phone goes between 3G & 2G much better automatically.

2-  from the dialer type in: *#*4636#*# this will lock your phone to the 3G network problem with this is your phone will not drop to 2G Automatically you will have to go to network settings and select 2G only. I did both and for me doing 1 Helped allot and is going between 3G & 2G automatically.

T-Mobile has come out and stated through their own forums, that they are “investigating” the issue and will “report back soon”. T-Mobile customers who are voicing their complaints loudly and frequently are quick to say that any issue seems to be handset related as those individuals coming from other T-Mobile 3G handsets had none of the same issues previously.

As the complaints mount, Google too needs to come right out and acknowledge the issue through their various methods of communication

Sidekick Sales Reinitiated by T-Mobile

After Sidekick data loss incident? it seems as if T-Mobile is looking forward to putting it behind them as we’ve just received a statement saying:

“T-Mobile is pleased to announce that Sidekick sales have resumed. New pricing for the Sidekick LX 2009 will be $149.99 with a two-year contract and the Sidekick 2008 will be $49.99 with a two-year contract.”

Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer says that the company will have to win back the trust of consumers after personal data stored for Sidekick owners was thought to be lost and was later recovered by the company, Network World reports. Balmer says that customers will look for extra assurance that a similar situation won't happen to Microsoft's other online services.

T-Mobile is currently offering detailed instructions on how to recover contact information that survived a widespread Microsoft/Danger server outage last week.

The companies involved first said that it was likely that all contacts, calendar entries, and photos would be forever lost in the data interruption, as we reported, but it was announced Sunday that most data would be recovered.
